This scholarship had at least allocated RM20 million to help the students from the 6 tertiary educational institutions complete their study. He added that MSEF SIYUAN Scholarship collaborates with charity organizations and hopefully can fosters the virtue of gratitude and give back to the community within the beneficiary students.
MSEF Executive Director Dr. Chong Li Chin said, “the name of SIYUAN is come from Mandarin idiom, yinshui siyuan (gratitude). We straight away use the pinyin, siyuan to let everyone know how profound is the Mandarin language and conserve the Chinese cultural intelligence. Even UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) had set yinshui siyuan as an ideal as well. In future, possibly there are some non-Mandarin speaker may ask us the meaning of siyuan and we are ready to share the meaning to them.”
Giving back to the community and the youths practice in volunteer services
Upon completion of their studies, MSEF requires the beneficiary students to participate in the “Malaysian Centre of Innovation in Voluntary Action” (MIVA). Under this programme, they have a chance to take part in acts of public welfare, serving the community and various charity organizations. MSEF hopes that the participation in this programme will allow students to become more compassionate and empathetic towards others when they set foot into society in the future. And if they received 1 year scholarship, they are required to serve the charity organisation for 500 hours. The qualifications to apply SIYUAN Scholarship are applicants must be Malaysian citizen, good in academics, moral character, have compassionate and empathetic, actively participate in co-curriculum, and do not have other education financial aids.
